Discover this framed artwork measuring 31X31cm, created on a 25X25cm sheet of vegetable-tanned cowhide leather with a thickness of approximately 4mm.
Using the modern embossing technique, the design is sculpted from the back of the leather, creating a three-dimensional effect. Cordoba leather techniques are employed to enhance the relief.
The motif depicts 'Mater Dolorosa,' inspired by a statue from the Genoa cemetery, representing a religious theme.
The fascinating story behind its creation reveals that the artwork evolved during the process: upon learning about the tragic passing of pop rock singer Dolores O'Riordan (whose name suits her well), the character unconsciously acquired some of her features. Additionally, it unintentionally bears resemblance to the sculpted Virgin Mary that adorned her coffin.
The artwork is stained, painted, and finished with a high-quality varnish. It is securely attached and nailed onto a 3D walnut-stained frame with white inner borders.
